A person who contaminated sweets with sleeping medication and gave them to children at a summer program in the area has confessed to sexual offences against two boys who were between nine and ten.
The accused was detained after eight youngsters and an older person became sick at the facility in the summer month.
The elderly man, from the Nottinghamshire area, admitted guilt to a total of 17 charges when he was present at the courthouse on Friday.
Yet, he denied one of the sexual offences he was charged with, which was against a nine-year-old child.
The defendant was kept in jail ahead of a subsequent court date on November 28th.
'Candy game'
The legal representative, handling the case, described the criminal behavior to the court.
She explained his those affected were disadvantaged youngsters who were staying at a summer camp which he managed.
Ruben engaged in a "candy game" with the youngsters, Mrs Prior stated, in which he would go into the boys' rooms when they were getting ready for bed and tell them to eat sweets "rapidly".
She stated to the judge Ruben had played this game with the children "for many years", and children had previously become sick the next day.
She stated Ruben had been successful in rationalizing this for many years as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepchild had concerns in summer 2025.
The legal representative continued: "In the summer" his family member had worries about the situation, for good reason.
"They resolved" to investigate in the man's possessions."
The prosecutor stated objects including infant oil, petroleum jelly and medical needles were discovered, and his stepson notified the authorities about his worries.
She stated the man went on to conduct the "candy game" with six boys that time - July 26th - and they were all ill the next day.
"Law enforcement" had not arrived by that time," she stated further.
The police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, previously told that it was reviewing law enforcement's management of the situation.
The prosecutor stated the minors were struggling to walk due to their sickness, so the stepson notified the law enforcement a second time.
She stated Ruben then conducted the "sweet game" in a room of five youngsters.
